About me
José Luis Ruiz [email protected] Photography is my life, and capturing the world around me is my passion. In every photo I seek to achieve technical perfection, without losing the spark of spontaneity. I have been a professional photographer for over seven years, working with numerous media outlets and image banks on a wide range of assignments. Thanks to this broad experience I have the skills, knowledge and equipment to take on any photographic challenge. I am also a capable videographer, and have shot a number of music videos and short video clips for the magazines I work with. I work extremely well under pressure, and both shoot and edit fast. For example, I took this photo of athlete Haile Gebrselassie at a press conference, where I had less than ten seconds for a single shot. I am an expert in capturing fleeting moments, and in solving any of the many kinds of problems that can emerge during photo shoots, so even if the weather, lighting and location are all terrible I will find a way to take a great picture. This photo of maize farmer Raúl Resendiz Resendiz, for example, was taken on a windy day just before noon, using mobile lighting equipment to compensate for the harsh midday light. I love assignments that give me the opportunity to tell stories, especially when I’m able to work with people and learn something about their lives. I believe that photography is a powerful tool for creating connections, understanding, and insight. I am also a writer, and have written articles for several magazines to accompany my photos.
